In a perfect world we should go to work to do only the tasks that excite us and those that we can do exceptionally well because they are our passion and our area of expertise. This would benefit our businesses and profit margins would go through the roof. Unfortunately the world we live in is not perfect and there are other tasks that we may not be passionate about, but are equally important to fulfil as they affect the running of our businesses. Be sure to ask yourself these questions before outsourcing a task.
1. Do I look at starting this task with great apprehension?
If you dread doing a certain task, it is probably because you do not actually want do it. This means you won’t do it with the commitment it requires.
2.Which tasks do I do frequently?
Identify the tasks that you have to do constantly and repeatedly that your business cannot survive without. Tasks like updating your database or cold calling potential customers.
3. Are there areas where I may not be as skilled and experienced?
Be honest with yourself. You cannot do everything by yourself, this is especially true for owners of new businesses. It might make financial sense to keep your operations budgets as lean as possible, but outsourcing them may even be more beneficial as you will have time on your hands to focus on what you are good at and have someone else who focuses specifically on that handle it instead.
